A flash is this moment where intense energy is produced and then dissipates back into the status quo. Momentary disruption.
For me, though it was this way to build friendships based on doing things versus drinking things. Idealistic of course. It was part of my grand scheme to build Vegas community by putting people on projects and building together. I wanted to build leaders so I turned leadership over and she took to the role like a boss . . . Captain's hat and all.
That errant Facebook post had defined all of our energy into a single melodic line that spoke so deeply to many of us. La Vie Boheme. We were today’s bohemians whose relationships were messy, who felt full of love, who adore art and music, and who desired something other.
A month of rehearsals surrounded by friends. Jordan who built our cohesive feel with her killer dance talent. That couple who seemed to rediscover each other through song. His new girlfriend pushed herself out of introversion to perform. Autumn who took time off her job as a doctor to make rehearsals, because here she found a breath. Clayboy who is always down for my brand of silliness. He also hosted our shenanigans and had to build us a practice table. Leah and Neon just owned our makeshift stage with their energetic dance prowess. Alyssa, Lisa, Teresa and I filled out the ensemble with an earnest passion for the project.
We went through 3 lead singers. Our first Mark has always been a light in my life. Middle Mark didn’t get his car burned on our first night because we talked his girlfriend out of it. Last Mark who saved the day and became instrumental in me finding my wings.
I’m still asked when I plan to do the next one. That’s a hard question. Like Rent, Act Two happens, and relationships unravel in a flash. So far there is no Finale A to bring everyone back together. That’s mostly my fault because I don't know how to fix them. I very much wish I did because I loved everyone one in that cast, much like Mark did behind his camera.
